NCS Division II Playoff Picture
From the NCS Football Bulletin
To be accepted as a participant in the NCS Football Championships, a team shall have compiled an overall record of at least an equal number of wins and losses; or an overall record of at least an equal number of wins and losses against teams in its own division; or at least an equal number of wins and losses in its own league.
The criteria for selection of at-large teams shall be a balance between:
- Record over-all
- League/Place co-champion
- Non-League
- Strength of schedule
- Record against teams in the same division
- Record against teams in a higher division
- Head-to-head against teams which have qualified or are being considered
- Record against common opponents
- Coaches’ Rating
These are just guesses on what the seeding could be in the NCS Division II bracket.
- *Rancho Cotate (9-0, 36.8)
- *Clayton Valley (8-1, 35.5)
- *Northgate (7-2, 21.6)
- *Casa Grande (7-2, 26)
- *Concord (7-2, 27.7)
- *Newark Memorial (7-2, 20.1)
- *Washington (5-4, 16.2)
- *Dublin (5-4, 10.5)
- *Livermore (2-7, 16.9)
- *Las Lomas (3-6, 11.9)
- Hayward (4-5, 6.7)
- *Arroyo (5-4, 3.4)
- *American (5-4, 2.6)
- Pinole Valley (3-6, 0.9)
- *Mt. Eden (5-4, –9.3)
* – secured minimum qualifying record
(record, Calpreps rating)
Very possible
- Pinole Valley (3-6) needs to defeat St. Mary’s for a .500 league record
- Hayward (4-5) could be a victim of the WACC Foothill. The Farmers are certainly good enough, but need to defeat Encinal in the finale.
Probably out
- College Park (4-5, 4.6) upset Concord last season, and need to knock off the Minutemen again.
- Alameda (3-6, –9.8) needs to beat Arroyo
Definitely out
- Windsor (3-6, 11.5)
- Maria Carrillo (3-6, 9.3)
- Montgomery (3-6, 0.1)
- Mt. Diablo (2-7)
- San Lorenzo (2-7)
- Redwood (1-8)
- Richmond (1-8)
- Ukiah (1-8)
Division II Notes
- Rancho Cotate, as they look for a #1 seed, plays Santa Rosa for a perfect regular season on Friday.
- Las Lomas is eligible because of a 1-1 record versus Division II opponents, and they’re certainly one of the top 16 teams in the Division.
- Livermore is 1-0 versus Division II opponents. The Cowboys are certainly good enough to be in the field, and own a 40-13 win over Hayward in the non-league. The problem is the EBAL, and a possibility of closing the season with an eight-game losing streak.

- *Clayton Valley (7-1)
- *Northgate (7-1)
- *Casa Grande (6-2)
- *Concord (6-2)
- *Washington (6-2)

Likely In
- Maria Carrillo (3-5) needs wins over Montgomery and Ukiah.
Very possible
- Pinole Valley (3-5) needs to defeat either Valley Christian or St. Mary’s for a .500 league record
- Hayward (4-4) could be a victim of the WACC Foothill. The Farmers, who beat Bishop O’Dowd on Friday, are certainly good enough, but need to defeat either Castro Valley or Encinal
Probably out
- College Park (3-5) upset Concord last season, and need to beat Ygnacio Valley and then knock off the Minutemen in the final week
- Alameda (2-6) needs to beat both San Lorenzo and Arroyo
- Windsor (3-5) – The reigning NCS champions need to beat Casa Grande and Montgomery
- San Lorenzo (2-6) – Need to beat both Alameda and Tennyson
Definitely out
- Mt. Diablo (2-6)
- Montgomery (2-6)
- Redwood (1-7)
- Richmond (1-7)
- Ukiah (1-7)
Division II Notes
- Rancho Cotate, as they look for a #1 seed, plays Marin Catholic for the MCAL title on Friday.
- Clayton Valley hosts Northgate Friday for the DVAL championship and a high seed in the playoffs.
- Washington plays at Newark Memorial Friday for the MVAL title.
- Las Lomas is eligible because of a 1-1 record versus Division II opponents, and they’re certainly one of the top 16 teams in the Division. The Knights are a lock with a win over Miramonte on Friday.
- Livermore is 1-0 versus Division II opponents and will be a very interesting case. The Cowboys are certainly good enough to be in the field, and own a 40-13 win over Hayward in the non-league. The problem is the EBAL, and a possibility of closing the season with an eight-game losing streak. Their final game against Granada could be critical.
- Mt. Eden has a very weak resume.
