Bellarmine wins 23rd Water Polo title (AUDIO)

The Bells avenged an overtime loss to Saint Francis in last year’s final with a 10-6 victory against the Lancers today to take home the Division I title. It’s the 23rd championship for Bellarmine, and for coach Larry Rogers, his 25th.

Leland won the Division I girls title for the first time in school history, as they upended Saint Francis, 12-7.

Sacred Heart Prep swept the Division II titles, winning the boys with a 7-4 score against Los Altos, while also beating the Eagles on the girls side, 11-4.

Division I Men’s Championship – Bellarmine (19-9) vs. Saint Francis (21-5)

For the third consecutive year, the Lancers and Bells meet in the final. Last season, Saint Francis won a thriller, 12-11, in overtime, and won the regular season meeting this year, 6-4. The Bells are looking for their unprecedented 23rd title, and for coach Rogers, his 25th championship. Saint Francis is aiming for their fifth.

Menlo-Atherton battles Saint Francis in one Division I semifinal, which is a rematch of last year’s final, won by Menlo, 6-5. In fact, these two programs have met in the last three Division I finals. Saint Francis won their quarterfinal game, 8-4, against Los Gatos while Menlo-Atherton was a 16-11 winner against Mitty.

Championship Saturday delivered some exciting finishes. The Division I men’s final might have delivered the best as Miramonte beat San Ramon Valley, 8-7, in double overtime thanks to Charlie Wiser’s game-winning goal. In Division II, Las Lomas completed an improbable comeback in a 11-10 win over Alhambra for their second consecutive title. The Knights scored nine unanswered goals for the win, and trailed 10-4 going to the fourth.

Division I Men’s Championship – San Ramon Valley vs. Miramonte @ Acalanes 2:30

San Ramon Valley is going for their first ever boys title, while the Matadors aim for their 12th, and 6th in the last 7 years. Miramonte beat San Ramon Valley, 12-7, in the semifinals last season.

NCS Women’s Water Polo Semifinals Preview (AUDIO)

Monte Vista (18-7) is the top seed and looking for their sixth consecutive NCS Division I championship, and could very well be facing San Ramon Valley (16-9) in the finals for the second straight year. First the Mustangs must beat upstart James Logan (23-3), who has already pulled off a number of surprises throughout the season to get to this point. The Mustangs have outscored the opposition, 26-6, in their first two NCS games, while the Colts have a 18-13 advantage.

Women’s Water Polo: Saint Francis, Sacred Heart Prep top seeds in CCS

The Lancers and Gators are the top seeds in both the men’s and women’s CCS brackets. The Sacred Heart Prep women are in search of their fifth consecutive title, while the Lancers (19-6) are looking for their third title in four years after a 6-5 loss to Menlo-Atherton in last season’s final.

Saint Francis could meet up with #4 Menlo-Atherton (13-11) in the semifinals this season. Other notables, Leland (21-5) is the second seed, Gunn (20-6) is the #3, Mitty (17-5) is 5th, Palo Alto (13-11) is 7th, Los Gatos (15-9) is 8th, and Santa Clara (15-8) is the 11th seed.
